Service Limit State Design and Analysis of Engineered Fills for Bridge Support

Project Information

Project ID:
FHWA-PROJ-12-0038
Project Abstract:

To more accurately predict the load deformation behavior of a shallow foundation on engineered fills at the service limit state.

Goals

The primary objectives of this contract are to:

(1) Develop practice-ready design tools to estimate immediate and secondary settlement and lateral deformation of engineered fills used for bridge support.

(2) Determine the stress distribution as a function of depth transferred by the engineered fill to the native foundation soils.
