The Human Factors Program relies on volunteers to participate in research studies. We encourage people with different backgrounds and perspectives to participate in our studies to provide us with a thorough understanding of how individuals respond to different stimuli on roadways. All volunteers are compensated for their participation.

Interested in participating in cutting edge transportation research? Generally, studies last 1 to 2 hours and are conducted in-person at the Turner–Fairbank Highway Research Center located at 6300 Georgetown Pike, McLean, VA 22101. All participants are responsible for transportation to the facility.

  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license.
  • At least 20/40 vision; glasses and contacts are OK.

Directions to the Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center. Make sure you bring a valid ID and arrange a time for your visit.

Note: We are taking precautions to maximize safety by following enhanced health and safety procedures that align with guidance from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), FHWA, and other local, State, and Federal government agencies. Participants and researchers will use a face covering, hand sanitizer and disposable gloves will be readily available, social distancing will be practiced whenever possible, and equipment and laboratory surfaces will be cleaned and disinfected before and after participation.
