Canyon to Tower, Phase 3

Project Description

Originally dedicated in the 1870’s, Yellowstone National Park is one of the nation’s oldest parks, predating the National Park Service by over 40 years. Since it’s protection as a national park, it has been the crown jewel of the national park system, often on the leading edge of both preserving, and modernizing parks. In this final phase, Canyon to Tower, Phase 3, Yellowstone National Park and the Federal Highway Administration continues the park’s history of preserving and modernizing the park. This project will complete the reconstruction of the Grand Loop; Canyon to Tower Road with reconstruction of the segment between Chittenden Road to Tower Junction.

Scope of Work

The scope of work for the proposed project is the reconstruction the 3.1 miles of road from Chittenden Road to Tower Junction making it a consistent 24-foot top width. Work will also include improving parking and traffic conditions in the Mae West curve area, the Antelope Creek viewing area, and other pullouts along the roadway. Tower Fall parking area, picnic areas, trailheads, and campground entrance roads will be upgraded.
