The project will replace five steel/timber bridges located along Forge Creek Road. The work will include stone masonry-faced, reinforced concrete abutments and piers, steel or concrete beams, timber decks and railings, riprap, streambank restoration at select abutments, approach and other miscellaneous work. Four of the bridges were originally constructed in 1956. Major rehabilitation or reconstruction occurred between 1979 to 1981, with a fifth bridge being constructed in 1982. The bridges have reached the end of their useful life. The length of the bridges varies from 34.7 to 71.1 feet and the width varies from 12.1 to 13.0 feet. This road is one-lane, two-way gravel roadway 11 to 12 feet wide and will be closed during construction. The work will be completed in one construction season. The project can be accessed from the Cades Cove Loop Road from the north or from the east.
